The Electro Pointer Bakelite pencil sharpener was made by Triple
"E" Products Co and Stile Craft Mfgrs Inc in 1941. Made in the USA, it has a formidable black phenolic housing for an automatic
motor. The manufacturers claimed it saved more than $100.00 per year in time and pencil waste !!
Reprinted from DUREZ PLASTIC NEWS, OCTOBER 1941 ... as featured in the classic plastics
book ART PLASTIC by Andrea DiNoto.
Made in St Louis, this very heavy large office pencil sharpener measures 8 inches
in length and stands some 6 inches high. I particularly like the classic Art Deco styling of the bakelite body, so streamline,
it certainly reminds me of the locomotive/train engines of the 1930's/1940's ...... A removable drawer at the front cleverly
incorporates the streamlined fin design within the handle. Also the pencil aperture seems to appear based on the large front
lights normally seen on the old locomotive engines. A simple but effective dial around the aperture can be adjusted to Short
... Medium ... or Long.
A nice story surrounds the addition of this superb sharpener to the collection ....
EXTRACTIONS CAN BE FUN !!!!!!
A very kind guy Nick Arnold, contacted me and asked if I would like the sharpener
for the collection. Evidently one day Nick was passing a rubbish skip near his home ... and horror of horrors, someone
had dumped the sharpener into the skip !!!! I think Nick is in fact a dentist, so a painless extraction came as
second nature to him ! ( sorry Nick .. my jokes don't get much better ) ...he rescued the sharpener, did some research and
kindly contacted me.
The rest as we say is history .... Thanks again Nick for certainly a very important
addition to the collection.... Jools
